Hello

Much of my work is inspired by a love of botanical gardens. I've always felt a spirit of energy and renewal when visiting these places. I think of my process as being akin to planning and planting a garden.

I find the process of monotype printmaking very satisfying. It allows me to loosen up and become receptive to the results of my initial efforts. I start with a determined yet playful focus. I employ the method of layering colors and shapes to create an illusion of depth and movement. I allow for randomness to occur by inking and placing real and artificial plants and hand cut stencils to the plexiglass plate. I may also add collaged elements to enhance the final image.

This method results in a mixed media artwork reminiscent of light filtering through the trees or going for a walk and discovering a protected area full of blooms, dragonflies and birds. A place to invigorate the senses.

My Story

Tricia Soderberg was born in Detroit, Michigan and earned her BFA in painting from Wayne State University. She later took classes in illustration at the Center for Creative Studies also in Detroit. She became interested in printmaking in 2011 after taking a class at The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Subsequent studies in printmaking led to becoming a member of the Tuesday Printmakers group at the BBAC from 2019 to 2020.

Tricia earned a certificate in Interactive Marketing from Walsh College in 2000. She worked as a graphic designer and event coordinator for Aon Corporation in Southfield, Michigan for 27 years. She is a past director of the Willis Gallery and has curated exhibitions for the WDIV studios in Detroit.

After retiring from corporate life Tricia moved with her husband to Colorado Springs in 2021. She is a member of the Manitou Art Center where she takes advantage of their printing press to begin her work. The monotypes are further developed in her home studio in Colorado Springs.

The imagery in her current paintings and monotypes is derived from elements of the local landscape and vistas encountered while traveling.
Color and composition are important elements in her work.
